Bengaluru Congress General Secretary and in -charge of the party’s Karnataka affairs Randeep Singh Surjewala on Tuesday refused to comment on discussions about the change of leadership in the state and said that it is no longer relevant. He also indicated that the party takes such decisions.

Reacting to the speculations being made by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivkumar about the visit to New Delhi, Surjewala made it clear that the yatra is for official work and the state’s side and demands to put before the central government. Some people are linking Siddaramaiah and Shivkumar’s visit to Delhi with the possibility of change in the post of Chief Minister.

Regarding the question about change of leadership and openly making rhetoric on internal issues by the legislators, Surjewala told reporters, ‘State Congress President (Shivkumar) has already noticed this. As far as leadership issues are concerned, I talked to you with the State Congress President and Deputy Chief Minister last week. We have already said whatever we had to say on that issue.

Last week, Surjewala had said that any news broadcast in the media about leadership change is only a ‘yield of imagination’, while Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said that deciding on matters like leadership change depends on the party high command.

Amid speculation of change in the post of Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah had said that he will be the Chief Minister for the entire five -year tenure. Shivkumar indicated that he has no choice and will stand with Siddaramaiah. In political circles, especially in the ruling Congress, there has been speculation about changing the Chief Minister at the end of this year for some time, which has cited the power-sharing agreement between Siddaramaiah and Shivkumar.

While Shivkumar is already in Delhi to meet Union Ministers, Siddaramaiah will go to the national capital on Wednesday and will discuss with Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. According to party sources, the possibility of their meeting with the Congress leadership during this visit cannot be ruled out.
