The movement of elephants remains throughout the year in Dharamjaigarh Forest Division. In such a situation, the department has deployed three drone cameras for their continuous monitoring, which has one general and two thermal cameras. Thermal drones are also able to identify elephants even at night. Apart from this, three elephants have been posted in the bark range and four parties have been posted in Dharamjaigarh Range. These parties keep an eye on the location of elephants and also alert the villagers in time.
According to the latest data of the forest department, a total of 112 elephants are wandering in the Dharamjaigarh forest division area. These include 27 male, 52 female and 33 cubs. The activation of elephants increases during the rainy season, due to which the monitoring system of the department has also been intensified.
Villagers stay cautious
According to the department, in the rain, villagers often go to the forest for Putu and other forest produce collections, which can increase the possibility of elephants’ attack, so elephant affected areas are being made profit and people are being appealed not to go towards the forest. SDO Bal Govind Sahu said that the video that went viral is of the bark range’s hatti beat, where 7 elephants are active. He said that continuous monitoring is being done with drone cameras and special campaign is being conducted for the safety of the villagers.
