West Champaran: People often cultivate paddy and seasonal vegetables during the monsoon. After waiting for three to four months, crops are harvested and then the real game of selling begins. When the crop comes out after the weather and the threat of the pest kites, its price is fixed according to the demand of the market. In such a situation, farmers do not get the profit of the level, which they are entitled to real. In such a situation, if the farmers want, then apart from paddy and vegetables, they can earn better by cultivating medicinal plants without fear of harm.

Demand all year at better price
Agricultural scientists working at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra in Madhopur of the district say that the special thing about medicinal plants is that they are used in nutritional food items and many other works along with making medicines. Apart from this, cultivation of these medicinal crops is also completed at low cost. Mentha, Shatavar, Musli, Ashwagandha, Eucalyptus etc. are some such things, which are priced at Rs 1000 to 1500 kg in the international market. The big thing is that if you work as oil processing from some medicine plants like mentha and eucalyptus, then it can give you a rate of up to Rs 4000 a liter.

International business opportunity

Parshuram, a farmer from Rulhi village of Majholia block of the district, cultivates mentha, white musli and Ashwagandha for the last 17 years. Parashuram says that after the harvesting of mentha, he removes oil (mentol) from him. Which is sold from home at a price of 2500 to 4000 rupees a liter in the international market through a union from home. They process about 1000 liters of menthol in a year. Similarly, farmer Ramashankar cultivates asparagus for the last 15 years. Which is sold in the market at a price of 1000 rupees a kg.

Shopping at high prices without price
Agricultural scientists have shared important information related to the expenses and income on the cultivation of these plants. He said that the expenditure on one acre on cultivation of some other medicine plants including Ashwagandha, Musli, Mentha, Moringa, Kalmegh and Asparagus comes from about 25 to 50 thousand rupees. Whereas asparagus sales in the market are sold about 40 thousand rupees per quintal, white musli 65 thousand rupees per quintal, Ashwagandha 15 thousand rupees per quintal, Mentol 2500 to 4000 thousand rupees liter and Sarpagandha 35 thousand rupees per quintal.
